Sunlight brightens the room between the blinds
Heat built up in the sheets makes the bed sweaty
Head pounds, lightly, back aches, lower lumbar
Can’t sleep anymore.
Why get out of bed, there’s nothing to do?
Nothing and no one expected at the office
No school for the girls
Practices, games, all sports are cancelled
Dog scratches to be let out.
Why go outside, everyone’s staying in?
Fridge has old milk and a half used can of something
Cupboard is straight out of a nursery rhyme
Not hungry but the thought of no food stirs my stomach
Shelves are empty at the store.
Why wash my hands, idiots hoard all the paper towels?
Do some work, with no purpose
Read a book, can’t concentrate
Go for a walk, to nowhere and back
Stare at reruns on tv, the black hole of YouTube.
Why be productive, there is no one to appreciate?
Dinner is automobile dependent
Family is FaceTime
Education is electronic
Interaction is theoretical.
Why exercise, why move, life is stagnant?
Action is static
Music is silence
Words are meaningless
Emotion is frustration.
Why bother, there’s nothing to accomplish?
The light has faded
I’m still under the covers.
Why?
Apathy is king.
If only we could rouse to coronation.
